Welcome

Thank you for visiting my profile. If you are reading this, your suffering has likely reached a point where you are considering professional help. I am so pleased you have taken the first step towards wellness. I believe that you are the most important part of your healing. It is very important to me that you get the results you are looking for in therapy and that your experience is a very positive one. I would like to provide you with some information about me and my practice.

My primary treatment approach is to teach clients to identify and challenge their harmful irrational thinking and develop more beneficial and rational habits of thought. The shift toward more rational thinking, in turn, enables clients to behave more effectively and to create healthy emotions. My practice is founded on evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT). CBT is best suited for individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, and other mood-related issues. CBT is based on the idea that how we think (cognition), how we feel (emotion) and how we act (behavior) all interact together. Specifically, our thoughts determine our feelings and our behavior. REBT is based on the idea that external events are not the cause of happiness or unhappiness, but rather the individuals’ internal thoughts about the events or themselves.

There are 3 interrelated dimensions that I use to help me understand my clients and the situations and issues they want help with.

  • Cognitive. I want to know how the person understands, makes sense of, or interprets the problem or event. People generally feel and behave in a way that is consistent with the way they are thinking, believing, and anticipating. The more accurate and clear a person is in his/her understanding the more appropriate and effective the person is able to be.
  • Behavior. What do they actually do behaviorally? What skills do they have for handling the event, and what might they need to learn? What impact does their behavior have on others? How deliberate and conscious is their behavior, and how automatic and unconscious is it.
  • Social. I want to understand the social context of the event or problem. The climate of the social/family system, the pressures, and supports.

By applying complementary therapy approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
